A hand tiller is great because you don’t need any fuel or electricity to run it. However, just because it is a manually operated tool, doesn’t mean it can’t be big and efficient.

As you may know, there are hand tillers that can be pushed or pulled by a human and there are ones that can be pulled behind livestock. These are perfect for small farms that want to be as natural as possible. They are also great for the small home gardener that just wants to till his or her lawn each growing season.

The garden tillers that are powered through a machine can come in the form of a tow behind tiller or a push tiller. They are powered with electricity, gasoline, or diesel fuel. Although they can be tough to handle at times, they really get the job done quick.

Advantage of Garden Tilling

When you till a garden, you aerate the soil and help the plants roots thrive much better than they would otherwise. In addition to this, you’ll be able to quickly tear up areas that are covered in grass.

This is great for those that are just starting out with a new garden on an area of the yard that was previously covered with grass.

Another great advantage that you get from using garden tillers is the ability to dig up old garden areas that have been overtaken by weeds. With a good tiller, you’ll be able to quickly and easily get your garden back into shape without ruining your back or wasting your entire weekend.

Gardening should be fun and easy, not hard and hazardous to your health.

Garden Tillers – The Bad

The trouble with garden tilling can come when you till your garden too much. What many people forget is that worms are an integral part of gardening. They help create vermicompost and they help aerate the soil on a consistent bases.

For this reason, you need to make sure that you do not till too deep or too often. When you are over using your garden tillers, you are killing all of the worms in the patch of land you are tilling.

Other than this, I highly recommend you use a tiller for your garden.
